  Do You Believe in Sanctuary Cities?

  san francisco is just one of many sanctuary cities in this country.

  as a permanent residence to the usa having had to go through immigration meetings, medical tests, means tests and a pretty good dose of fear - it bothers me that the same city that i had to go to for my hearing, past armed guards to prove my worth, wants illegals to come out of the woodwork and take advantage of the services the city has to offer, with a promise that they won't be rounded up or harmed in any way.

  i don't seem to understand this system at all - i feel penalized somehow for doing what was right yet, i can still feel badly for those who are scared while here illegally.

  WELL SAID!!!! I have friends who were desparately poor and starving in Mexico. Their living conditions are so awful that their "houses" have big gapping spaces between the slats and offer little to no protection from the elements. I would want better for my family and would definately risk all to get it. It takes years to become legal enough to enter the US if one is able to get that far or live that long. Americans are spoiled and don't want to share anything with hardworking people who have nothing, and they call themselves X-tians! What would Jesus do??? I dare anyone who is against Mexicans to answer that. Why not be prejudice against Canadians? Some of them come here illegally, too. No one cares because they come from a "rich" land. That's it, isn't it? The land you come from illegally must be a rich one or you are toast!

  DID ANY OF YOU actually bring anybody into "the truth" from scratch?

  in all my years of jwing, i never actually brought anyone up to the stage of baptism.. i had bible studies occasionally, but they usually fizzled out after a while.

  i can't think.

  of more than a small handful of witnesses that ever actually got a study from door-to-door.

  No. I was very bad at it. I felt so incompetent and stupid. I guess what it was is that I never truly believed what I was saying and the other people at the door made more sense than I did. I couldn't fight their logic even though I "knew" they were wrong.

  one amazing thing is that out of just three kinds of milk the milk of cow, ewe and goat hundreds if not over a thousand different kinds of cheese are made around the world.

  yellow or white, hard or soft, mouldy or not mouldy, strong tasting or bland.

  cheddar, gruyere, gouda, maasdamer, parmesan, feta, roquefort, stilton, brie and scores more.

  A revelation for me: the revelation of Revelation

  i was reading the thread about revelation, and some research i did on the beginning of chapter 10 of the apocalyptic book came to mind, so i thought i'd share it here in case anyone's interested.. as an ignorant jehovah's witness, i had no idea of the real literary structure of the book.

  the watchtower society makes out the mighty angel in 10:1 who stands on the sea and earth is jesus christ, and that the contents of the little scroll he hands john is a prophecy to be fulfilled after 1914. to grasp the simple truth that the strong angel in 10:1 is the angel alluded to in 1:1, and that the little scroll is actually the scroll which has been progressively unsealed in 6:1 to 8:1, was very satisfying.

  it describes the revelation being given to john, which contains the main content of the prophetic work!.

  The writers were on acid. How can anyone explain those far out things differently? Really, Revelation sounds psychedelic to me.

  Would YOU Remain A JW If You Thought The Watchtower Could Be Reformed?

  personally, i don't think the organization is reformable.

  while i was an elder, i tried to be a more moderate voice and as i grew older any harsher attitudes disappaited from within me.

  as they say, all the good (and smart) elders have left.

  confession time!

  i was raised in the troof and therefor never "chose" it.

  i find it really hard to get my head around why anyone would ever join this organization as an adult.

  Get this: I was 8 years old and standing in the back of my dad's pickup one evening alone when I just felt so desparate. I said a prayer outloud to Satan to take me away so I could celebrate Christmas like all the other kids get to. I hated Jehovah for not letting me be normal. Now, how would an 8 year old know what was normal and abnormal? All the teachers and kids at school told me so.

  Public speaking experience? What, for 5 minutes every 2 months? I didn't learn a thing! I saw plenty of others up there a lot more than that, though.
